How to Fix: Ownership Conflict or Access Request Stuck #
Your profile shows “Request access” but there’s no response after 3-7 days, or you’re locked out of your own listing.
Step-by-Step Solution #
Step 1: Determine Current Ownership Status #
- Search for your business on Google Maps
- Check if you see “Own this business?” or “Request access”
- Note who currently has ownership (if visible)
Step 2: Request Access Through Proper Channels #
- Click Own this business? or Request access
- Fill out the form completely
- Provide proof of ownership:
- Business license
- Utility bill
- Lease agreement
- Tax documents
Step 3: Wait for Current Owner Response #
- Current owner has 7 days to respond
- If they don’t respond, you automatically get access
- Check your email for notifications
Step 4: Escalate If No Response #
After 7 days with no action:
- Click Support in Google Business Profile
- Select Ownership and access issues
- Explain your situation
- Upload proof of ownership
- Request manual review
Step 5: Provide Additional Proof #
Google may ask for:
- Business registration documents
- Official business correspondence
- Utility bills in business name
- Photos of storefront with business name
- Articles of incorporation
Step 6: Remove Previous Owners (if applicable) #
Once you have access:
- Go to Users in your dashboard
- Remove any unauthorized users
- Update contact information
- Secure your account with 2-factor authentication
